Travel: It’s all an adventure!

Travel it's all an adventure thetraveloguer

I thought I should share with you the reason why ‘it’s all an adventure’ is written across the top of this site, just in case any of you have been losing sleep over it!

If any of you are bloggers, you probably know how hard it can be to come up with a name for your blog. It seems like all the good ones are taken! I had a number of things I wanted to call this blog, but I had to just just keep messing around until I found something that was a good fit and available! That is how I ended up with the name;

The Traveloguer

It’s all an adventure was in the running at one stage, and I knew that I didn’t want it to let it go, as it is a phrase I have uttered so many times on my travels.

I thought that the phrase really captured what I envisioned my site being about. The Traveloguer travel blog started as a place for me to get all of my travel memories out of my head, and as an outlet for my need to write and take photographs on the road.

The Traveloguer is all about the joy of travel, it is a celebration of travel while at the same time a place to acknowledge all the disasters that happen on the road. Because I don’t know about you, but for me, travel never comes without at least a few moments of stress, or things going wrong. But it’s all part of the delicious adventure of it all!

It’s all an adventure‘s beginnings are a little hazy. I remember there was some variation of the phrase being shouted out at a very messy session after a night out in Ireland. It was said in a funny voice, and years later, it was still stuck myself and A’s heads.

We used to say it during the biggest travel disaster moments, and would end up laughing, no matter what the scenario; waking up and realising we had been robbed in Florence, getting ripped off by an aggressive Laotian taxi driver, losing all three of our phones after the Full Moon Party, reaching near-breaking point with our backpacks, being left behind at a rest stop in the middle of the night, waking up with horrendous hangovers, burns, cuts and mozzie bites, being absolutely terrified in our hut in Don Det, having to leave our New Zealand accommodation in the middle of the night after the owner turned psychotic, and suffering from what can only be described as early-onset hot flashes in 4,000 Islands, where we feared we may actually die of dehydration!

‘Ah sure, it’s all an adventure!’ would be said in the strongest country accent we could muster, and would always result in a giggle at the very least, or more often than not, us bursting into laughter at the ridiculousness of the situation.

Aside from making us laugh, it’s all an adventure sums up what travel is all about.

No matter what the situation, no matter how stressed out, and even scared you can get, it’s all an adventure reminds us that that is exactly what travel is, and that those nightmare moments are always the ones we will look back on and laugh at, or remember most vividly.

Like the time there was a dead mouse in our hostel toaster in NZ!

It’s all an adventure serves as a perfect reminder that travel is a huge privilege, something we should all be so grateful for at all times on our journeys. It can be so easy to forget how excited you were before you started your trip, how you dreamed of seeing all those sights and how freeing it is to be free in the world, with no commitments and nothing but fantastic experiences in front of you.

Once you are actually traveling, it is easy to forget these things, and that is why ‘it’s all an adventure is so important. It reminds me to be grateful, to appreciate all the experiences that travel brings; both the life-changing and the traumatic, as they are all part of the wonderful adventure that travel is.

I love it; It reminds me of back when I was traveling with the family’s carnival. Often a poor week would result in not having money to eat well. When we would be grabbing something out of a gas station or eating whatever was 99 cents we could be heard saying ah the breakfast of champions. 🙂 You have to laugh about it because crying doesn’t help anything. take care, max

I love the phrase “It’s all an adventure”. Great attitude. Reminds me of what my husband says to me when we wind up in unusual circumstances: “I promised you it would never be dull”.

Just saying…It’s All An Adventure” makes me smile:) When I used to find myself in a place that disappointed me, my summation was…”At least I have an opinion!” That was also my way of reminding myself that few get that option… you have to experience something first. I love yopur title, and love the spirit behind it:)

I love that attitude – it’s all an adventure – we use the phrase ‘at least life isn’t boring’. With that attitude, the oh no’s often turn into something to laugh at.

I love the title, ‘it’s all an adventure’ and think it’s a perfect one for your blog. Travel needs to be thought of as adventure and that makes us appreciate it more, especially if things go differently than planned.

Adventures come in so many forms! Your picture of the scorpions and snakes in the jars is something I will never be able to un-see again 😉 As for the mouse in the toaster, I have my own chipmunk in a heater story….

The phrase suggests you are going to places you’ve never been, seeing people you’ve never seen and doing things you’ve never done. I good reason to travel. Also a good reason to read a travel blog to get a feeling for what it’s like.

    Hello
It really is an adventure and I got frightened with that pic of Scorpio and snakes. Its really shocking to all that you have told , losing all three phones and about your house owner. You really are a brave girl and adventurous too. The title is perfect and between I have participated in voting but I just checked one box in travel and have not checked another blog.

So true about the choosing of the blog tagline. Took me weeks to come up with mine and I went through a similar process as you before deciding. The main component…it had to feel right and sum up the past and future travels. The mouse in the toaster is probably not thinking that “It’s All An Adventure”.

Ha! I love the origin of your saying! Sometimes the biggest travel disasters can be most life defining! I love your perspective and gratefulness you feel! You’re right, it IS so easy to forget all the excitement during a stressful or hectic event while traveling, but the fact that we are able to weather the storm makes is so much more of a precious gift!

“It’s all an adventure…” – That’s a great attitude to have while traveling, especially in Tanzania! When the concept of time… or the idea of a road… or the image of an outhouse ain’t quite the same as the preconceived notion. We say…… Bah! It’s all an adventure! 🙂
